Call for Workshop Proposals

June 8, 2006

Dear Minn. Fathers & Families Network Members and Supporters,

MFFN is currently seeking proposals for 90-minute breakout sessions at the 2007 Minnesota Fatherhood & Family Services Summit, our 4 th annual conference, to be held on Monday – Tuesday, Jan. 22-23, 2007 at the St. Cloud Civic Center. The deadline for submitting proposals is Friday, August 4, 2006.

Format : Workshops may fit one of three formats: 1) lecture/panel presentation, 2) interactive session, or 3) thematic group discussion. Workshops should be geared toward professionals such as educators, social service workers, and fatherhood advocates. All 90-minute breakout sessions will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007 at the St. Cloud Civic Center.

Theme : Topics should focus primarily on the role of fathers and men in families. Themes may fit any of the following categories: early childhood development, family law (including child support, parenting time, marriage, divorce, child custody, etc), teen pregnancy prevention, male socialization, urban/rural issues, workforce development, public policy & advocacy, cultural/cross-cultural issues of fathering, corrections, health care, parent education, etc. Additionally, MFFN will consider proposals that focus on aspects of fatherhood program design and implementation such as recruitment, retention, and evaluation.

Benefits : All presenters, facilitators, moderators, and panelists are provided with a complementary conference registration and one year’s membership in MFFN – an $80 value. Additionally, MFFN may be able to subsidize travel expenses for a small number of presenters, upon request. Presenters will also gain visibility and recognition of their expertise in the conference brochures, web site, program and other promotional materials. Please note: MFFN cannot pay speaking fees or honorarium related to the breakout sessions at the annual conference.

How proposals will be evaluated : Proposals will be evaluated for relevance to theme, community appeal, and potential to fulfill audience and agenda needs. The MFFN conference committee evaluates proposals. MFFN reserves the right to place speakers and panelists in compatible sessions and to combine session proposals when appropriate. All those who submit proposals will be informed if their proposal was accepted by mid-September, 2006.
